March 18-25
This week we will be continuing our throwing games. We will participate in sink the ship and also castle ball in all my P.E. classes. The students will review the throwing/catching cues, use teamwork/strategy, and also communication skills to try and knock different types of targets down from their opponents side. We also will take a quiz on the different throwing cues that we practiced the past two weeks.

February 26th to March 11th
February 26th to March 11th. This week all students will be participating in throwing stations in preparation for the games pin ball and pumpkin ball which require constant throwing and communication. The students will be provided with a foam ball, football, soccer ball, Frisbee, and gator ball throwing stations. They will practice accuracy at different targets on high, medium, and low levels. After practicing throwing the students will play a fun fast pace game of pin ball in which they have to knock their opponents bowling pins down with precision throws using safety foam gator balls. They will also use their accuracy skills to participate in pumpkin ball in which the students have to throw the foam safe gator balls at a giant beach ball to move it into their opposing teams area. The students will also participate in a shuttle run fitness test to asses their agility skills.
I would also like to thank everyone that participated in Jump Rope For Heart. Thank you so much for your donations to such a good cause. As a school NSE raised over $6,000!!! We beat our goal by over a thousand dollars. I look forward to continuing this fundraiser next year and setting the bar even higher. (The prizes will be distributed within the next 6 weeks along with Bowling for Kids Sake Prizes) Thanks again for the support.

February 5th to the 19th (Tag Games)
Every P.E. class will participate in tag games that help increase cardiovascular endurance. Some of the games being played will include sharks and fishes, freeze tag, color tag, capture the flag tag, elbow tag, everyone is it tag, tree tag, tunnel tag, and other tag variations. The students will learn how to use teamwork and cooperation within the tag games along with communication skills all while getting a excellent lower body workout.

January 16th to January 30th
For two weeks we will be playing floor hockey. These lessons will consist of skill work such as passing, shooting at floor targets, and also puck handling. Grades 3-6 will also participate in game play consisting of 5 v 5 teams. The game play will be limited to safer rules such as using a softer stick/puck, no contact of any kind, and also short quick games to limit fatigue.

October 23rd to November 13th
K-2nd Grades
The next three weeks we will be working on soccer and other kicking skills. We will be covering short vs long kicks, foot placement, and all the different types of sports that involve kicking such as football, soccer, rugby, ect. The students will learn all different types of foot placement and also the correct location to kick an object on for the specified distance they would like it to travel. The students will also learn basic rules to popular sports that involve kicking such as soccer, football, and kickball. There will be a short quiz pertaining to the cues to kicking at the end of the unit.
3rd-6th Grades

Later in the unit they will learn the rules pertaining to soccer and will eventually play in small sided games. There will be a short quiz on the soccer rules and the cues to a proper kick.

October 2, 2014 Physical Education
GRADES 3-6
I would like to address a little clarification on the dress code, you CAN wear shorts/athletic pants with logos on them. We now understand how hard it is to find Physical Education attire without them. As far as units go we are currently in the ultimate series of games such as ultimate handball, football, and Frisbee. The ultimate series of games pass over transferable skills such as throwing, defense set up, and offensive strategy. We will be working specifically on man to man defense and the give and go technique within the next few weeks. Skills such as spacial awareness, teamwork, communication, and good sportsmanship will be taught and reviewed over the next few weeks.
GRADES K-2

The next few weeks we will be working with the parachute developing cooperation, communication, and listening skills further. We will also be working on locomotor movements such as running, jumping, skipping, leaping, and galloping. The students will also learn spacial awareness and pathways such as zig-zags, over/under, around, ect. We will also be trying out different types of exercises such as six inches and body folds for core strength, and mountain climbers/wall sits for lower body muscle development.

Welcome Back!
Dear students and parents/guardians,
My name is Mr. Hinkel and I am the new Physical Education Teacher at North Schuylkill Elementary School. I want to welcome everyone back and I hope both my students and their parents/guardians had a great summer. This years physical education class will consist of many new and exciting activities/games that will promote teamwork, leadership, cooperation, physical fitness, and skills needed to develop the students into being self sufficient lifelong learners. I plan to incorporate games such as basketball, kickball, and floor hockey among other things to promote the skills listed above. To start things off this year I will present a unit next week called "cooperative games" in which the students will have to work together to solve problems. This unit will include areas such as teamwork, communication, and problem solving. It will also assist in helping the students get familiar with their new classmates.
Some information that parents/guardians might be interested in are as followed-
1. Students should be dressed for class in a solid color tee shirt or polo shirt or any Spartan shirt. Shorts are allowed to be worn for P.E. class until daylight savings time. After that the students will need to wear athletic pants such as sweatpants or jogging pants. Both the shorts and pants SHOULDN'T have logos on them (ie: nike, adidas, ect.). Sneakers are also a must for Physical Education.
2. Students should show either a doctors note or note from their parents/guardian pertaining to the physical health of the student (ie: if the student can't participate in P.E. due to a broken arm, sickness, injury, ect.)
3. Many different avenues will be used for grading the students such as skill tests, pencil and paper assessments, participation, and sportsmanship.
I will use this means of communication to post every unit of instruction I will be teaching and also for listing homework if necessary. I look forward to a exciting productive year at North Schuylkill Elementary School.
